To Boost Economic Growth, Finance Minister Purbaya Extends the Placement of Rp200 T in State-Owned Banks

Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the government will extend the term of a Rp200 trillion deposit with state-owned enterprises (SOEs) until September 2026. This policy aims to maintain banking sector liquidity while stimulating economic growth through credit disbursement.

Purbaya explained that when this policy was first launched on September 13, 2025, the government set the term of the funds at six months. Consequently, the funds were originally scheduled to mature on March 13 of this year.

However, the results of the latest coordination meeting between the Ministry of Finance and Bank Indonesia decided that the deposit term would be extended by another six months until September 2026.

“We met with the Governor of Bank Indonesia last Friday to consolidate the policy. The Rp200 trillion deposit, which is due on March 13, will be immediately extended for the next six months,” Purbaya explained during the “APBN Kita” press conference on Monday (2/23).

He emphasized that state-owned banks need not worry about a potential decline in liquidity, as the government will continue to maintain funding stability. This, Purbaya added, is also expected to encourage banks to be more proactive in extending productive loans to the public.

“Previously, many people asked whether banks would lose liquidity because the government withdrew funds in March. With my statement just now, I want to emphasize that this will not happen,” he added.

Purbaya also noted that the fund placement policy—coordinated with Bank Indonesia’s monetary strategy—has had a positive impact on the money supply from September 2025 through February 2026.

For example, this policy helped drive 11.7 percent growth in primary money supply (M0) during the first week of February. Additionally, credit growth reached 10 percent in January, with lending rates remaining competitive at 8.80 percent—down from 9.12 percent in August 2025.

“This 11.7 percent growth in M0 actually creates room for credit to grow at a double-digit rate as well. M0 growth will be maintained at a double-digit level, and Bank Indonesia is committed to supporting the government in this regard,” he explained.

Consequently, Purbaya is once again optimistic that extending the period for which these funds are deposited will further stimulate the national economy.

“We will re-evaluate the situation in September, six months after the extension. The hope is that the economy will have gained further momentum and that the results of various government priority programs will become increasingly evident,” Purbaya concluded.

In September 2025, the government placed Rp200 trillion in state-owned banks to boost banking liquidity and spur economic growth toward the end of the year. The funds were allocated as follows: Rp55 trillion to BRI, Rp55 trillion to BNI, Rp25 trillion to BTN, and Rp10 trillion to BSI.
